An Exercise to Discover The Inner Hue
What if you took the pressure off of your devotional life for 90 days?
My prayer life was getting a little stagnant in the earlier part of the year. You know...It was boring, seemed lifeless, lacked spark!
I suppose our relationship with God is like our relationship with anyone else and vice versa.
So, I decided (more like God planted an idea) to walk through the Mark. When times feel dry revisit the basics without expectation and watch God work in you. If your "devotional life" is lacking try what I call a Spiritual Cleanse with the Gospel of Mark. Here's how it works:
- 30 Days: Read 1/2 chapter each day
- Write down who God is (not what God does) in that 1/2 chapter with the verse number beside your observation (e.g. Mark 8:2, You are compassionate).
- 30 Days: Confess who you have been instead
- Write down who you have been that has not been in harmony with who you've known God to be in the first 30 days. Don't put down specific times, people, scenarios or details. Just name it and claim it. Whisper a prayer, "Holy Spirit show me who I've been..." (e.g. Mark 8:2 I have been hard-nosed with people)
- 30 Days: Ask God to make himself known in and through you.
- Write your request down for God in your journal. (e.g. Mark 8:2 "Lord please root your compassion more deeply in me and may it overflow in me today to at least one person."
In 90 days you will have walked through the Gospel of Mark with God 3 times allowing Him to sink in more deeply each time. We are not reading to try to live like God (that just adds more stress). We are reading to encounter the God who breathed these words coming alive in The Inner Hue.
